Dr. Oh My Lord

When you move here, everyone reminds you to STOP CONVERTING INTO DOLLARS. Mostly because you don't MAKE dollars, so it's pointless. (If you don't live here and don't understand, trust me.)

Oh...and then there's the whole reason of not wanting to have a heart attack.

Here is the first Dr. Pepper I've ever seen in Israel after a late-night mee-nee-mahr-keht visit.

Here is the same Dr. Pepper with a view of the price tag.

Here is Ichilov Hospital which admitted me after falling into a catatonic state.

Looks like I'm switching to a new drink. Good thing there's not a water shortage in this country.

Oh wait...

okay so did the price tag say 8 or 28? It was hard to see. And if it said 8, is this expensive or not? you have non american readers you know, you must explain things to us slooowwly and clearly. we don't get it! :)

tag (selll by) and not the price. and funny - think in shekels..... untl you go buy a house, car, or any given electronic device, then is is all in dollars.

maybe you should switch to Cappecino or Afukh...oh, wait...that would make Dr. Pepper look like a bargain!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm still seeing a post every day. While I'm really happy about that (YAY!!!), I'm wondering to myself, "Self, if Benji can afford Dr. Pepper in Israel, then he apparently doesn't need a job outside the comedy gig."

So I'll be really happy with the daily, or even multiple per day posts.

Do I sound selfish? Well, just think of it as me asking for all of us out there.

Katherine - funny you ask. Last year, 8 shequels would've been just under $2. Now it's just over $2.

Benji - in Hertzelia Pituach by my dance studio you can get it for way cheaper - 7 shequels! PAR-TAY!

"Mee-nee-mahr-keht"? This must be "Invasion of the English Idioms," Part II...

Ilana, do you see the times on these posts? I am working hard for my readers!!!

Since it's 7:30 PM and I'm still in Jerusalem, I have serious worries about my ability to keep this up.

(I'm definitely not getting to Talia's dance studio tonight.)

My friend and their family was staying at the Inbal Hotel here in Jerusalem for Pessach. It's a really nice hotel. I ended up eating pool-side.

17 shekel for a can of Coke.

THAT IS NUTS

Cheaper at Meatland in Ra'anana.
They have root beer and cream soda and Aunt Jemima waffles too. Yumm.
But, walk into a place like that, and you'll walk out with only lint in your pockets - waaaay too tempting.

When my son asks for a sip of anything from there, he gets one, yes, just ONE sip! What am I, a charity?

PS I stopped counting in Canajun dollars when I ran out of Canajun money!

Nope. nothing being sold in dollars anymore since they dropped with a giant thud. apartments are all being sold in the almighty shek.
Bahn-
I paid 16.99 shek for a six pack of water yesterday. I think our gurneys passed each other at Ichilov.

Is that a lot? I never buy those things...too heavy to carry home.

Benji - very expensive. Only buy it for 11 sheqs at most. I feel your schlep pain. Been there.

And I saved almost 20,000 sheqs on my apt - the dollar dropped from 4.29 to 4.03 in the 4 weeks between signing the contract and my mortgage coming through. THAT rocked.
